Print Beware The Digital Age!!
Times are changing, and print media is taking a major hit because of it. Newspapers, Magazines, Books, Comics are slowly becoming relics of the past generation. It is not because society has lost the ability to read in some weird twist of fate. No, it is because recent generations are actively using computers and electronic devices. I saw a 3 year old that was able to use an Ipad himself to watch an episode of Spongebob Squarepants. Sales in print are dwindling and it is just fighting to survive at this point. Items like Tablets, eReaders, Laptops, and even Cell Phones have become the tools of modern society. It is a very rare sight to meet a person that does not know how to interact with these items.
In a recent effort to go along with the changes, DC is making a drastic change for its younger audience. Their new shift will be referred to as day-and-date digital comics. Comics are known for having a title made for the times, for example there was the ;Golden Age of comics (1938-1950), Silver Age of comics (1950-1970), Bronze Age of comics (1970-1985), Modern Age of comics (1985-Present). I really want to dub the next age as "The Digital Age of comics." I mean come on you know it is going to be the future!!!
The concept of Digital Comics is not something brand new, but the widespread effort from DC is a big push towards moving forward. They are planning to increase the content provided as well as the number of titles converted to digital format. If you like the feel of paper through your fingers don't boycott DC just yet, the shift is just going to be an added change to how DC works. So while your rushing to the stands to pick up the latest issue of Green Lantern #1, I will be uploading it onto my Android phone while baking a Red Velvet Cake! HA
If you want to check out more information on the App, or if you just want to download it now go to these websites: DCcomics.com or Comixology.com. So are you excited by the change, or does it seem like a bad idea to you?!
